Our country is in dire need of prayer. Even people who would not claim to be a follower of Christ would tell you that we need all the help we can get. Just this morning I scrolled through my Twitter feed to hear of overnight violence in a state hundreds of miles away and even more locally a shooting that injured multiple people about thirty miles away. There is something wrong in our nation and the battle is a spiritual one and not a physical one.
In The Daniel Prayer Anne Graham Lotz calls us to prayer and not just any sort of prayer, but prayer for our nation. She grapples with the text of Daniel 9 in which Daniel cries out to God on behalf of the sins of his people. Daniel is not afraid to admit the failures and wrong-doings of the nation and begs God to have mercy upon them and restore their city.
Lotz compels us to stand in the gap of our nation. We should be confessing the waywardness of not only our lives as individuals, but also as a nation. We are in the midst of a battle and prayer is the only answer for these struggles. We must start to beg God to intercede on the behalf of our nation and we must start now.
If you are looking for a book to invigorate your prayer life or if you are concerned about the state of our nation, then I encourage you to pick up this book. We must understand the importance of prayer in our nation.
